World’s First Barocaloric Fridge

At Calorics 2024, hosted by our founder Prof. Xavier Moya at the University of Cambridge, Barocal proudly demonstrated a groundbreaking achievement in sustainable cooling: the world’s first barocaloric refrigerator. This event brought together leading researchers and innovators in caloric materials and device technology, reinforcing the momentum toward a future free from harmful refrigerants.

A Breakthrough in Solid Cooling Technology

Our Generation 2 prototype showcased the power of solid-state barocaloric materials, eliminating the need for traditional hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants, which are major contributors to climate change. Unlike conventional vapor-compression systems, Barocal’s technology provides a refrigerant-free, energy-efficient cooling solution with zero global warming potential.

During the demonstration, our prototype successfully cooled beverages, proving its commercial viability and giving attendees a firsthand experience of its reliable and sustainable performance.
